How to Maintain the Steel Pipe Elbow? What Are the Precautions?

The major difference between a steel pipe elbow and a carbon steel elbow is the material. The chemical composition in the elbow bend can prevent the elbow bend surface from rusting or corroding over time. In piping systems, elbows are the pipe fittings that redirect pipes.

According to the different angles, there are three commonly used elbows which are 45 degree, 90 degree, and 180 degree stainless steel pipe elbow, it includes other unusual elbows such as 60 degree, depending on your engineering requirements.

1. The method to maintain the steel pipe elbow

(1) The steel pipe elbows stored for a long time should be inspected regularly

Exposed treated steel pipe elbow surfaces should be kept neat, clean and it needs to be stored in the well-ventilated dry areas inside the place. Neither stack nor storage is allowed. Keep the steel pipe elbow dry, ventilated and keep the equipment clean and tidy while doing the outdoor activities, you should also store the steel pipe elbow according to the correct storage method.

(2) Steel pipe elbow installation

Install the steel pipe elbow directly into the pipeline according to the connection type and usage position. Under the normal circumstance, the steel pipe elbow can be installed in any position of the pipeline, but it requires a simple inspection. The intermediate flow direction of the stop steel pipe elbow must be from the vertical valve disc to upward. Steel pipe elbow can only be installed horizontally. Please kindly pay attention to the air impermeability while installing the steel pipe elbow, to prevent leakage and affect the pipeline normal operation.

(3) Prevent the media from leaking out of the packing

When you use the ball valve, globe valve, and gate valve of steel pipe elbow, it should only be fully opened or fully closed while using, it should not be used to regulate the flow, therefore it can avoid the sealing surface from erosion and accelerated wear and tear. There is a reverse sealing device inside the gate valve and top thread stop valve, tightening the handwheel to the top position to prevent the media from leaking from the packing.

(4) Use the handle for the steel pipe elbow

Do not use joysticks or other tools to avoid damage to the valve. Turn the handwheel clockwise to turn it off and turn the handwheel anticlockwise to turn it on. The steel pipe elbow needs to be used horizontally and ensure the correct usage and method. The packing seal bolt of stainless steel pipe fittings should be tightened evenly, do not push it into the bending position, so as not to cause scratches and impede valve rod movement or leakage.

(5) Keep the steel pipe elbow clean

Always keep the steel pipe elbow clean while using and lubricate the drive thread according to the regulation. You should immediately stop the process and find out the cause of failure if there is any breakdown.

2. The precautions for the steel pipe elbow

(1) At meanwhile, install the steel pipe elbow directly into the pipeline according to the connection type and usage position, Under the normal circumstance, the steel pipe elbow can be installed in any position of the pipeline, however, it must be sealed to prevent the leakage and the effect the pipeline normal operation.

(2) When you use the ball valve, globe valve, and gate valve of the steel pipe elbow, it should only be fully opened or fully closed while using and it should not be used to regulate the flow to avoid sealing.

(3) You should check the long-term storage of steel pipe elbow regularly. Exposed treated steel pipe elbow surfaces should be kept neat, clean and it needs to be stored in the well-ventilated dry areas inside the place. Neither stack nor store the steel pipe elbow is allowed. Keep the steel pipe elbow dry, ventilated and keep the equipment clean and tidy while doing the outdoor activities, you should also store the steel pipe elbow according to the correct storage method.
