Huashang Steel manufactures custom Heat Exchanger Maintenance Nozzles and Service Connections from seamless pipe according to customer-approved drawings. These drawing-based components are installed on heat exchanger headers, manifolds or related pressure-containing assemblies. Depending on the customer's terminology and intended service, they may be described as maintenance nozzles, maintenance connections, service nozzles, service connections, auxiliary nozzles, auxiliary connections, maintenance ports or service ports.

Unlike standard pipe fittings, these nozzles do not carry universal dimensions. Their material, diameter, wall thickness, length, machined profile, weld preparation and interface dimensions are determined by the customer's approved equipment drawings.

Functions and Applications for Heat Exchanger Maintenance Nozzles

Auxiliary and Maintenance Functions

Depending on the approved equipment design, a maintenance nozzle may provide a connection for system maintenance, inspection, filling or draining, venting, purging, flushing or cleaning, pressure or leakage testing, instrument installation, temporary service piping, or other project-specific operations. The name "Maintenance Nozzle" does not establish one fixed function. Its exact purpose must be confirmed by the customer's approved drawings, P&ID and equipment documentation.

Service Medium and Pressure Circuit Designations

Maintenance nozzles may be identified by service medium, including fuel gas, CO₂, water, hydrogen-side, refrigerant, steam-side, process gas, hot-side and cold-side designations. The service-medium name should only be used when it corresponds to the actual process circuit.

They may also be classified by pressure circuit as HP (high-pressure), IP (intermediate-pressure) or LP (low-pressure) maintenance nozzles. The pressure designation may be combined with the service medium, such as HP Water Maintenance Nozzle or IP CO₂ Maintenance Nozzle. HP, IP and LP are circuit designations and do not represent universal pressure ratings. The actual design pressure and temperature must follow the approved project specification.

Manufacturing Process for Heat Exchanger Maintenance Nozzles

Seamless-Pipe Raw Material and Inspection

Huashang Steel manufactures water maintenance nozzles, CO₂ maintenance nozzles and other drawing-based service connections from selected seamless pipe. Before machining, the seamless-pipe raw material is inspected for chemical composition, mechanical properties, ultrasonic testing, outside diameter, wall thickness and other applicable dimensions. These checks confirm that the selected raw material complies with the specified material grade and is suitable for subsequent CNC machining.

CNC Machining and Finished-Product Verification

The general production process includes selection of seamless pipe according to the specified material, incoming raw-material inspection, cutting the nozzle blank from the seamless pipe, CNC lathe machining according to the approved drawing, drawing-based dimensional inspection, PMI verification, and final inspection and release.

After machining, each maintenance nozzle is inspected according to the customer-approved drawing. Final inspection includes overall dimensional inspection, machined-profile verification, interface and mating-dimension inspection, visual and surface-condition inspection, and PMI verification. Positive Material Identification is performed on the finished product to confirm the material grade and reduce the risk of material mix-up during production.

Available Material Grades

Custom maintenance nozzles and service connections can be manufactured from customer-specified seamless-pipe materials, including stainless steel, duplex steel, super stainless steel, nickel alloy, and titanium and titanium alloy.

Coordinated Heat Exchanger Components

Maintenance nozzles can be manufactured together with related drawing-based components, including water headers, CO₂ headers, HP and IP headers, water petals, CO₂ petals, internal header inserts, inlet and outlet nozzles, vent and drain connections, reducer tees, manifolds, pipe spools and custom machined components. Coordinated production helps control the interface dimensions between matching components before final delivery.
