A Half-Shell Reducing Tee is a custom component produced by longitudinally cutting and machining the main run of a reducing tee. The branch connection remains available for connection to external process piping, while the open half-shell profile is prepared for integration with a header, manifold, transition chamber or heat exchanger core. Its final profile, cut position, branch orientation, mating surface and weld preparation are determined by the approved assembly drawing. This component should not be confused with a saddle tee, lateral tee, weldolet or standard concentric reducer, as these products have different geometries and connection methods.
A Custom Inlet Half-Shell Reducing Tee provides a transition between an external inlet pipe and the larger header or flow manifold assembly. Depending on the equipment design, it may also be described as an inlet transition tee, inlet header connection, feed transition tee or nozzle-to-header inlet transition. Its exact function and flow direction must be confirmed by the approved equipment and piping drawings.
A Custom Outlet Half-Shell Reducing Tee provides a transition between the header or flow manifold and the external outlet piping. Alternative descriptions include outlet transition tee, outlet header connection, discharge transition tee and nozzle-to-header outlet transition. The outlet component may form part of a collection assembly, but it is not a complete collector manifold unless it includes the full manifold structure.

Every pipe-formed half-shell reducing tee begins with incoming inspection of the welded or seamless pipe. The quality team reviews the EN 10204 3.1 certificate, heat number, chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, surface condition, ultrasonic examination records and PMI results. After cutting, each pipe blank is checked for length, cutting angle, surface condition and material traceability. During cold extrusion, the branch profile, position, wall-thickness condition, deformation and possible surface defects are inspected and recorded.
After forming, solution annealing and rapid cooling or water quenching are performed as required by the material specification, with heat-treatment parameters documented for each production batch. Following CNC machining and longitudinal splitting, inspectors verify the bore, half-shell profile, mating surfaces, cut position, bevel and root face against drawing-defined dimensions. If the product contains welds, WPS/PQR, welder qualifications and applicable radiographic examination are reviewed. For austenitic stainless steel, liquid penetrant testing may be performed when surface NDE is required. Every finished component receives 100% visual and dimensional inspection and 100% PMI verification. Marking, traceability, inspection records and packing are checked before the final Inspection Release Note is issued.

Drawing-based half-shell reducing tees and header transition connections may be used in industrial heat exchangers, printed circuit heat exchangers, compact heat exchangers, CO₂ coolers and recuperators, hydrogen cooling equipment, cryogenic heat exchangers, fuel-gas heaters, process-gas coolers, heat-recovery systems, power-generation equipment, high-pressure thermal systems and other custom welded heat exchanger assemblies.
A half-shell reducing tee is produced by longitudinally cutting the main run of a reducing tee and machining the open profile to match a header or manifold. A saddle tee is formed by cutting a saddle-shaped contour onto a pipe branch for direct attachment to the outer surface of a run pipe. The two components have different geometries, weld preparations and integration methods.
Available materials include stainless steel, super stainless steel, duplex and super duplex steel, nickel alloy, and titanium and titanium alloy. Material selection is determined by the service medium, pressure rating and corrosion requirements specified in the approved drawing.
Production begins with a reducing tee selected by material and wall thickness. The main run is longitudinally cut, then CNC machined and edge-prepared to the customer-approved drawing. Each component undergoes incoming material inspection, in-process dimensional checks, heat treatment documentation, final 100% visual and dimensional inspection, and 100% PMI verification before release.
