Huashang Steel manufactures custom High-Pressure Heat Exchanger Petals — precision-machined internal header inserts that distribute process media across heat transfer surfaces. Each petal is produced from seamless pipe according to customer-approved drawings, making every component a drawing-specific part rather than a catalog standard.
Petals are classified by pressure circuit designation, not by service medium. The three common categories are HP (High-Pressure-Side), IP (Intermediate-Pressure-Side), and LP (Low-Pressure-Side) petals where applicable. For instance, an HP Petal may be installed in a high-pressure water, CO₂, process-gas, or hydrogen circuit. The actual operating pressure, temperature, medium, material grade, and functional configuration are always confirmed against the customer's approved drawings and project specifications before manufacture.
Because every petal is designed for a specific heat exchanger assembly, its curvature, length, profile, openings, orientation, and interface dimensions are controlled exclusively to the approved drawing. This drawing-based approach ensures compatibility with the corresponding header, nozzle, and internal components.

Huashang Steel machines petals from stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium and titanium alloys. Material selection is driven by the customer's project specifications, including operating medium, design pressure, temperature range, and corrosion-resistance requirements. Each material batch is verified through raw-material inspection and confirmed again by PMI at final inspection.
Petals are deployed in hydrogen cooling systems, hydrogen refueling stations, and hydrogen heat exchangers where controlled flow distribution and high-pressure containment are required.
In LNG liquefaction plants, LNG regasification equipment, and cryogenic heat exchangers, petals operate at temperatures as low as -196°C, matching the demands of cryogenic service.
Petals function as internal flow distributors in microchannel heat exchangers (MCHE), printed circuit heat exchangers (PCHE), and plate-fin heat exchangers, supporting uniform media distribution across compact heat transfer cores.
Additional applications include gas processing modules, compressor cooling systems, supercritical CO₂ heat exchangers, and waste heat recovery units (WHRU).

Manufacturing begins with the selection of a seamless pipe in the required material grade and wall thickness. A suitable blank is cut from the pipe using a CNC band saw, then machined on CNC lathes and milling centers to produce the required profile, mating surfaces, and dimensional features.
Before any machining begins, the seamless pipe undergoes raw-material inspection covering chemical composition, mechanical properties, ultrasonic testing, outside diameter and wall thickness verification, general dimensional conformity, and material grade and specification confirmation. This step confirms that the selected pipe meets the requirements for subsequent cutting and precision machining.
After the blank is cut, CNC machining is carried out according to the customer's drawing on 3-axis, 4-axis, or 5-axis machining centers as required by the component geometry. The machining and inspection process may include verification of overall profile, curvature and mating surfaces, machined dimensions, opening dimensions and locations, edge preparation, and interface dimensions with the corresponding header or nozzle. The applicable inspection characteristics are determined by the approved drawing and assembly requirements.
Finished petals are inspected against the approved drawing before release. Final inspection includes drawing-based dimensional inspection, profile and mating-surface verification, visual and surface-condition inspection, Positive Material Identification (PMI), and issuance of an EN 10204 3.1 Material Certificate. PMI is performed to verify the finished component's material grade and reduce the risk of material mix-up during production. Only components that meet the drawing and specified material requirements are accepted for final release.
A heat exchanger petal is a custom-machined internal header insert that distributes process media across heat transfer surfaces within a heat exchanger. It is manufactured from seamless pipe per customer-approved drawings and is not a standard ASME fitting.
Design pressure reaches up to 350 bar depending on the project, and the operating temperature range spans from -196°C to +650°C. Actual limits are confirmed against approved drawings and project specifications.
Petals are machined from stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium and titanium alloys. Material selection follows the customer's project specifications and service conditions.
No. Petals have no fixed industry dimensions and are manufactured strictly according to customer-approved drawings. Each component's curvature, length, profile, openings, orientation, and interface dimensions are drawing-controlled.
